What is a Metronome?
A metronome is a core tool in music practice used to precisely control rhythm and tempo. Its central parameter, BPM (Beats Per Minute), defines the number of beats per minute, essentially serving as the “heartbeat frequency” of music. It not only helps performers establish a stable sense of timing but also improves accuracy and expressiveness through measurable tempo indicators.
Our online metronome tool, while retaining traditional functions, further integrates intuitive visual feedback with flexible operation. Users can set tempo through multiple methods such as sliding adjustment, manual input, or real-time TAP detection, and can modify parameters at any time during playback. The interface clearly displays BPM values, corresponding Italian tempo markings (e.g., Allegro, Moderato, Presto), the current time signature, and subdivision - making rhythm training both efficient and precise.

How to Use This Online Metronome?
Set BPM: Four Quick Input Methods
You can adjust BPM in any of the following ways, all of which support real-time changes during playback:
- Direct Input: Click the BPM value on the main screen and enter a number in the popup, or select from preset values
- Slider Control: Use the sliding dial under the BPM value for fast and intuitive adjustments
- Fine Adjustment: Click the plus/minus buttons next to the BPM value to adjust in single increments
- Tap Tempo: Repeatedly tap the TAP button, and the system calculates BPM automatically. An algorithm filters out irregular taps to ensure stable accuracy
Set Time Signature: Flexible for Different Pieces
Click the time signature (e.g., 4/4) in the settings menu. In the popup:
- Adjust the number of beats per measure and note value using plus/minus buttons
- Or quickly select from preset common time signatures
Choose Subdivision: Add Rhythmic Variations
Click the note icon in the settings menu to select the desired subdivision mode. The chosen note value is displayed in real time for quick reference.
Set Timer: A Focused Training Assistant
Click the timer icon to:
- Set countdown duration in minutes
- After clicking “Start Timer”, the countdown appears next to the icon while the metronome starts playing
- Playback automatically stops when the countdown ends
- To stop early, click the icon again and choose “Stop Timer”
Choose Sounds: Personalized Listening Experience
Click the sound name to choose from multiple beat sound options, tailored to different preferences and practice scenarios.
Customize Beat Accents
At the top of the interface, the beat indicator is composed of multiple beat bars (corresponding to the number of beats per measure), providing intuitive visual feedback of accents. Click any beat bar to cycle through its accent states:
- No dark bar: This beat is muted (Mute)
- 1 dark bar: This beat is a weak accent (Piano / Weak)
- 2 dark bars: This beat is a medium accent (Mezzo Forte / Medium)
- 3 dark bars: This beat is a strong accent (Forte / Strong)
This feature allows you to fully customize the accent pattern of each measure, perfectly adapting to different musical expressions and practice needs. During playback, the current beat is highlighted, giving you a clear sense of rhythmic flow.
All settings support real-time adjustments during playback, allowing you to optimize parameters without interrupting practice.
